Sarntal Valley

Nestled in the mountain landscape of the Sarntal Alps in South Tyrol, the Sarntal Valley is a region shaped by forests, mountains, and a deeply rooted craft tradition. This environment has formed the foundation of our work for generations and shapes our responsible approach to the natural raw material of wood.

Trento

In addition to our main site in the Sarntal Valley, we operate a storage and logistics site in Trento, which supports the organisation and distribution of our products.

Kiefersfelden

In addition, we are represented with a site in Kiefersfelden (Germany), enabling us to serve customers efficiently throughout the Alpine region and the German-speaking market.

The South Tyrol logo

As one of the first companies in the timber sector, we are allowed to use the South Tyrol logo because we meet all the criteria for sustainability, innovation, and quality.

The wood species

At Sarner Holz, all sawn timber comes from PEFC-certified forests. This means that the trees are managed sustainably, the forests are cared for, and natural resources are conserved.

With PEFC-certified timber, you can be sure that your material is not only high-quality and durable, but also environmentally responsible. For us, sustainability and quality go hand in hand.

Spruce

Our number one wood species
Spruce has a light, even wood with a fine grain. It grows quickly and is easy to work with, making it ideal for construction projects, interior fit-outs, or furniture.
What makes Sarner Holz special: our spruce comes exclusively from alpine growing regions, with particularly attractive grain, excellent properties, and a very good price-performance ratio.

Swiss stone pine

For a natural look, feel, and sense of well-being.
Swiss stone pine is a soft, aromatic wood with a light, reddish-golden tone. It stands out for its pleasant scent, good thermal insulation, and natural regulation of air humidity, making it ideal for furniture and interior fit-outs.
What makes Sarner Holz special: our Swiss stone pine comes from PEFC-certified, sustainably managed forests and is processed with great care — for natural quality with character.

Larch

Simple. Special. Durable.
Larch stands out for its reddish-brown colour and high resistance. It is durable and resistant to moisture, making it perfect for outdoor use or load-bearing structures.

The Sarner Holz Family

Since 2002, the company has been managed by the three brothers Harald, Christian, and Günther Kemenater, who have continuously modernized and expanded the business.

The next generation is already waiting in the wings: Stefan and Michael Kemenater, Christian’s sons, are already working in the company and have taken on key leadership responsibilities.

We take the term “family business” quite literally, by the way: with Martina, Gabi, Matthias, and other members of the Kemenater family, it is clear that everyone is pulling together.

Even Alfons, the senior of the family, still does his evening rounds around the premises — at over 90 years of age.

Sarner Holz works sustainably

As a family business, sustainable management is very important to us — after all, we want to preserve our region and the whole world for future generations. That is why we do a great deal, going far beyond industry standards. This is also why we proudly carry the South Tyrol sustainability label.

Use of local timber

We process 100% timber from the Alpine region — no long transport routes, but top-quality spruce and larch directly from the region. This is how we combine sustainability with the highest-quality natural product.

HVO

We have converted our entire diesel fleet to HVO fuel, reducing the CO₂ emissions of our vehicles by at least 85%. In doing so, we make an active contribution to cleaner air and sustainable mobility.

Circular economy: heating plant

We generate no waste. The wood is used 100% efficiently. With our own heating plant, we heat our buildings and operate the drying chambers.

Green electricity

We produce part of our electricity ourselves through our own solar system and cover the remaining demand entirely with 100% clean hydropower from South Tyrol. In this way, we consistently rely on regional, sustainable energy.

PEFC and wood from here

We are PEFC-certified. In addition, we supply through local value chains and thus reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Social responsibility

We enable time off for mothers and fathers, we donate instead of giving expensive gifts, and we take care of our employees. As one of the largest employers in the valley, we are aware of our responsibility. That is also why we are certified for family and work.
