Pellets from South Tyrol

Sarner Holz Pellets are wood pellets from South Tyrol, produced from regional wood and by-products of wood processing. Short transport routes, strict quality control, and the use of electricity from hydro and solar power ensure an impressive overall balance. Ideal for anyone who wants to heat regionally, reliably, and sustainably.

Our pellets are ideally suited for:

  • Private households with pellet heating
  • Agricultural operations
  • Commercial and trade businesses
  • Public and municipal buildings
  • Anyone who consciously wants to use wood pellets from South Tyrol

Those who value regional origin, consistent quality, and reliable availability are in the right place at Sarner Holz.

Sarner Holz Pellets – Simply. Unique. Heating.

1. Local Timber – Regional Strength

Our pellets are made exclusively from regional timber. This means:

  • Timber from sustainably managed forests
  • Close cooperation with regional forestry operations
  • Strengthening the local economy
  • Full transparency about raw material origin

Short distances and regional partnerships are not marketing promises for us, but daily practice.

2. Short Transport Routes – Less CO₂, More Sense

The shorter the route, the better the eco-balance. Therefore, we consistently rely on a regional supply chain:

  • No unnecessary long-distance transport
  • Significantly reduced CO₂ emissions
  • Planning security and supply security
  • Less dependence on international markets

Thus, energy stays where it's needed – in the region.

3. Sarner Holz Quality Control – Because Details Count

Quality at Sarner Holz is not coincidence but the result of clear processes and high standards. Our pellets are continuously tested – from raw material to finished product.

Our quality features:

  • Uniform pellet length and density
  • Very low fine content
  • Low ash content
  • High calorific value
  • Clean, trouble-free combustion

This means for you:

  • Less maintenance effort
  • Longer heating system lifespan
  • Constant heating performance
  • Maximum operational safety
4. Absolutely Sustainable – From Conviction

Sustainability at Sarner Holz is not a trend but part of our DNA. As manufacturers of timber for window construction, we think in cycles – not in waste.

  • Utilization of all timber residues from window timber production
  • No additional deforestation for pellet production
  • Closed raw material cycle from log to energy
  • CO₂‑neutral heat through renewable raw material

We also consistently follow our path regarding energy:

  • Production with hydropower electricity
  • Supplemented by solar power from own generation
  • Significantly reduced dependence on external energy sources

This creates heat that is not only sustainable but also credible – from forest to heating room.

ENplus A1 – Highest Quality Grade

Our pellets exceed the criteria of ENplus A1 certification, the highest European quality level for wood pellets. This means:

  • Very low ash content (≤ 0.7 %)
    • Our pellets: ≤ 0.5 %
  • Low moisture (≤ 10 %)
    • Our pellets: ≤ 8 %
  • Consistent diameter (6 mm ± 1 mm) and length (3.15–40 mm)
  • High density (≥ 600 kg/m³) and mechanical stability (≥ 98 %)
  • Minimal fine parts (< 3.15 mm ≤ 1 %)
    • Our pellets: Under 0.5%
  • High calorific value (≥ 4.6 kWh/kg)
    • Our pellets: Guaranteed more than 4.8 kWh/kg
  • Continuous quality checks from production to filling

With ENplus A1, you can rely on dependable, clean, and efficient heat that protects your heating system and offers maximum operational reliability.

FAQ Pellets

What makes Sarner Holz pellets so special?

In our production of window scantlings and planed timber products, a large amount of long-fibre planer shavings is generated. This is a clear advantage for our pellets: the length of the shavings is crucial for the calorific value. And planer shavings are longer than ordinary sawdust. That is why our pellets are not only significantly lighter in colour than average, but also contain more energy and less dust. It makes sense, because in principle our pellets contain more “real wood” compared with products made only from bark and sawdust.

What wood are the pellets made from?

Our pellets are made from residual wood and by-products of wood processing in South Tyrol. Only spruce, larch, and Swiss stone pine are processed. That is also why the pellets smell so good.

How are the pellets produced?

The wood residues are shredded, dried, pressed, and formed into pellets with a diameter of 6 mm.
Through the continuously monitored mixture of sawdust, planer shavings, and chopped residual pieces, we achieve ideal pellet properties.

What is the calorific value of the pellets?

Our pellets have a high calorific value that guarantees efficient and even heat output. It is clearly higher than the 4.8 kWh/kg required by ENplus A1.

What about ash formation?

The ash content is very low, which helps keep stoves clean and reduces maintenance requirements.

What packaging sizes are available?

In retail, Sarner Holz pellets are sold exclusively in practical 15 kg bags. For our major customers who collect themselves, we also offer loose quantities in big bags.

Where can I buy the pellets?

Our pellets are available through selected retail partners in South Tyrol. They are currently available at Gartenmarkt and Tutto Giardino.

Are the pellets sustainable and environmentally friendly?

Yes, absolutely. They are made from residual wood, without any additional logging, and production uses electricity from hydro and solar power. Short transport routes and production in South Tyrol — it hardly gets more environmentally friendly than that.

Are the pellets suitable for all pellet heating systems?

Yes, they are suitable for all standard pellet heating systems, from small stoves to large-scale plants, provide consistent heat, and cause only minimal residue buildup.
