The South Tyrol Sustainability Label

In South Tyrol, there is a mark for micro-enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), destinations, and accommodation/hospitality businesses that actively work toward a sustainable future: the South Tyrol Sustainability Label.

Pioneers in the South Tyrolean Timber Sector

The label recognizes actors who work to protect nature and support the local community. Sarner Holz is committed to preserving traditions and promoting the sustainable living environment of South Tyrol through concrete measures.

The South Tyrol Sustainability Label follows a three-stage model that considers the current situation of companies and helps them develop step by step. Upon reaching the third and highest level, all four fields of sustainability – ecology, social, economy, and governance – are fully addressed. This is complemented by a greenhouse gas balance sheet, which is a central element of the program. Each level is verified by an independent body to ensure that companies contribute to a more sustainable future through concrete actions. Since 2025, companies from the timber sector can also apply for the label – if all criteria are met.

The First Step

As holders of the Sustainability Label Level 1, we have successfully mastered the first step of sustainable transformation. We have begun to shape our path toward sustainability. We are aware of the importance of this topic, and in a guided process, we captured our status quo and defined fundamental measures to make our operational activities more sustainable. This process was independently verified and has given us the impetus to take action.

As a company with more than 10 employees, we have additionally created a greenhouse gas balance for Scope 1 & 2.

In the timber sector, there are only a handful of operations that, like us, meet all criteria. We are particularly proud of that! But we are not stopping there:

We aim to reach Level 3 – the highest level – by 2027 at the latest. Several projects are already underway. Stay tuned!

We already live sustainability in production and fairness in dealing with one another, with customers, suppliers, and employees. Through the South Tyrol Sustainability Label, this is now visible to everyone.
