DKD, DKK, D+DK and More

High-Quality Glulam from South Tyrol

Our beams are laminated from three or four layers.
The visible surface layers consist of wood of the highest quality and are virtually knot-free and defect-free. The annual rings are vertically oriented (rift-sawn or semi-rift-sawn) and run evenly, meeting even the highest optical standards.

The beam structure can be described with simple letter combinations:

D is a surface layer (optically premium, knot-free and defect-free) with a 2cm defect zone on the right
K is a finger-jointed middle layer
D+ is a three-sided defect-free surface layer

Standards

The scantlings are glued in accordance with DIN EN 204 D4 — optionally also with PU adhesive — and are IFT-certified. The timber comes from PEFC-compliant sources; we also supply Holz von Hier certified timber to Northern Italy, Austria, Bavaria, and Baden-Württemberg.

Wood species

We process spruce, larch, oak, and Swiss stone pine. More than 90% of the volume is spruce.

Build-ups

We offer window scantlings with continuous outer lamellae in the following versions:

DK(K)D for timber windows –
three-layer or four-layer

DKK(K) and D+DK(K) for timber-aluminium windows –
three-layer or four-layer

Window Planks for Every Application

Scantlings for Wooden Windows

Traditionally, we work with 3-layer scantlings, which we produce and distribute in fixed lengths.

-  The face layers are optically high-quality and provide a beautiful appearance.

-  The core layer or middle layer stabilizes the component and reduces tension and warping.

This DKD or DKKD structure is considered standard in window construction because it offers an excellent balance of stability, appearance, and economy.

D+DK for Wood-Aluminum Windows

For particularly deep wood/aluminum window profiles, especially for sashes, we have something special: D+DK scantlings. Even with very demanding and modern profiles, no finger joint joints are visible anywhere.

Since the middle layer is visible due to the deep profiles and window pane position, this layer is executed in D quality. The face layer facing inward is 3-side defect-free, creating an absolutely perfect appearance.

Scantlings for Wood-Aluminum Windows

For wood-aluminum windows, the exterior is protected by the aluminum shell. Therefore, no optically perfect face layer is required there. Special structures such as DKK or DKKK result for frames and sashes.

Advantages:

  • Frame with DKK structure: More cost-efficient than DKD, as no high-quality face layer is needed on the outside
  • Excellent structural properties

Special Scantlings

We also offer lift-slide door profiles, mullion-transom timbers up to 4 meters, and other special constructions with continuous face layer. Simply inquire now!
